Hello! My name is Dorothy, and I’m here to inspire you to love your body and to love yourself. The best way to do that is to be healthy. You’ll feel great in the inside and you’ll look great from the outside. Essentially, you’ll soon be a whole new you! How exciting! Getting started is the hardest part, but I’m here to help!
I started my journey about a year ago. Before my lifestyle change, my main goal was to lose weight. I carelessly entrusted myself in all types of whacko diets. Have you heard of the Lemonade diet? Thats when you drink a mixture of lemon, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. NO FOOD. You’re suppose to drink the lemonade mixture for 10 days without eating anything. I only got up to day 6 and I gave in to a slice of pizza. I lost weight but I gained it all back within a couple of months. After that, I tried the Apple Diet. Have any idea what this diet consists of? Yup, you guessed it! Apples… just.. apples. 3 Apples a day for 5 days. THATS IT, nothing else, just apples. I did this for 3 days and I gave into mongolian bbq. Finally, I said, ” I’VE HAD ENOUGH! DAMMIT I JUST WANNA FEEL GOOD!” That did it! I changed main goal from losing weight, to feeling healthy. I stopped stressing about my weight and started focusing on how I feel. If working out made me feel good, I kept working out. If eating clean made me feel good, I kept eating clean. I started exercising regularly, by going to the gym, doing insanity, running at the park, going hiking, anything to keep my body moving. I incorporated healthier meals into my diet, but there were times I stepped back into my old ways. I went back and forth with this for a while and finally I made the connection. I’m always happier when I’m eating clean! My energy level is always up a notch, I wake up feeling excited about the day, and I feel lighter on my feet. It all makes sense! To kickstart my lifestyle, I committed a month to being PALEO. PALEO is a “primal diet” excluding legumes, wheat, grain, dairy, and artificial sugar. This challenge helped me adapt to my new lifestyle and I LOVE IT!
Trial and error is the key. It’s been a year and I’m still learning, thats why it’s called a journey. You don’t stop at 30 days and say “I’ve done enough, I’m done being healthy.” It’s a lifestyle change. “You mean… I’ve lived one way my whole entire life and now you want me to take everything I know and throw it out the window?” YES! We’ve been taught to eat sugar-filled cereal for breakfast and pasta covered in cheese for dinner and that’s suppose to be healthy? COMEON….
Let us take this journey together. You are not alone! Don’t let your setbacks discourage your efforts in this journey. We’re not perfect, who ever said we are? One step at a time.
